I’m looking for simple maintenance that’s not hard to figure out or time consuming. I’d love an easy user experience and not a lot of work to maintain clear water.

Thanks for your question! There are a few things to consider here. In general, you want something other than a standard microfiber filter to lend a hand with your maintenance routine. Mineral based and Salt systems are the most common filtration assists, and both of these have their advantages. Mineral systems work to replenish the natural nutrients in your water to make the water itself more adept to handling contaminants in your water. The two biggest advantages of a mineral system are a reduction in the amount of chlorine necessary, and an extended lifespan for the water in your Hot Tub so you don't need to drain and refill near as often. Master Spas' EcoPur filtration and inline Frog@Ease systems available in brands like Bullfrog are common applications of this strategy. Salt Systems are pretty polarizing in the Hot Tub industry, but are often the lowest maintenance Hot Tubs on the market. These systems work by getting a salt concentration in your water, then allowing the Hot Tub's activation system to convert that salt to chlorine. It's not chlorine free, it generates chlorine automatically so you don't have to. The biggest maintenance required for a salt water Hot Tub is keeping your ph in balance, as that determines the type of chlorine produced. Hot Spring, Arctic, QCA and Master Spas all have salt water Hot Tub options. Make sure you're asking the right questions when shopping your local dealer, and do your best to sort through marketing fluff and the stuff that'll make your life easier once you have a Hot Tub in your back yard.
